Paranatural Wiki
They mingle, study, and receive orders in a shared dream hub and execute those orders in a cruel reality unkind to non-suit-wearing bozos what don't wear suits.

The Dream Hub is a nonphysical location where members of the Paranatural Activity Consortium convene in their sleep. It makes its first appearance in Chapter 4.

Overview[]

Boss Leader is the creator of the hub, and the owner of the dream wherein the place exists.[1]

The dream hub consists of at least fifteen floors[2], with each floor having a distinct color, pattern, and architectural design. At the bottom, in the centre of the structure, there is a pit filled with sand; just like for any other place in the Dream Hub, Boss Leader appears to have complete control over this area, and can even utilize the sand inside to create all kinds of material constructs at will, going as far as rematerializing her own body.[3] Each agent appears to have their own "dream room", which may act as a "manifestation of [an agent's] subconscious mind".[4][5] Agents appear to have a high level of privacy regarding their rooms, to the point where they are even able to disallow Boss Leader from entering.[4]

Spectrals from all over the world can access the Dream Hub regardless of their physical distance or the time of the day, as long as they're asleep or unconscious.

Dream Hub Ch4Pg12 02

Chapter 4, Page 12

After dressing in his Consortium pajamas, Richard Spender falls asleep and subsequently enters the dream hub in order to meet with Texas Walker. Upon exiting his room and realizing there are people around him, Spender quickly slams his door shut before being called over by Cinnamon Stix sitting with Greco Stucks, who informs him that Texas is waiting for him on the fifteenth floor. She also tips him off to the fact that Boss Leader will be supervising their conversation. While taking the elevator up, Spender briefly reunites with Haoran King, Proxy Popcorn, and Pasha Popova, a team of spectrals stationed on the opposite side of the globe. As they speak, Agent Popova bursts into dust, causing them to wonder whether she woke up or got eaten.[11]

Upon entering Texas' dream room, Spender is briefly confronted by Texas over his secrecy before being interrupted by Boss Leader, who informs Spender that she'll be sending Agent Day to investigate Cousinhood reports of monsters in Mayview. After correctly deducing that she is using the reports as an excuse to begin a secret internal investigation on Spender and the town, Boss Leader teases Spender with a spider depicting his face, causing him to collapse in fright as she manifests a bag of marshmallows for the three of them.

Chapter 5[]

While walking to school with Max Puckett, Isabel Guerra mentions the dream hub as one of the things Spender has told them not to tell Isaac about.[12] At the end of the chapter, after becoming disillusioned with Mr. Spender, Isabel mentions the "secret dream base" as she informs Isaac about the Consortium in order to help mend his broken bond with the rest of the club.

Chapter 6[]

Boss Leader is briefly seen in the Consortium, staring at a locked, very large, and bizarre door. This is overlaid with Professor Bigfoot talking about disasters coming from many sources, including "our leaders' secrecy"[13].

Chapter 7[]

As Mr. Spender recalls his previous encounters with the Activity Club members, he flashes back to the Dream Consortium, where a teenage Spender and Zarei (along with a 35 year old Texas Walker) race to show an infant Ed Burger to his mother.[14] Inside her room, Dr. Gwen Burger converses with Boss Leader about her imprisonment and the danger of the Great Unknown, which they have kept trapped in a deep sleep. Gwen then greets Mina and Spender, talking about how the passage of time is different where she is (as she wasn't aware three years had passed); she has the chance to reunite with Ed, but he doesn't recognize her, in part because of the altered state she is in due to her dream's metaphysical distance. The reunion is cut short by the attack of Great Unknown, who is "dreaming right next door"[15] behind an imposing eldritch gate locked with chains and padlock; it manifests as a monstrous figure emerging from the walls of the dream, although held off by Walker's abilities and Boss Leader's power over the dream itself. The spectrals make a narrow escape, right before Boss Leader is forced to sever the connection with Gwen's dream in order to stop the grudge. Afterwards, the head of the Consortium materializes unscathed in the center of the Dream Hub, rebuilding her body's oniric projection from the sand contained in the pit; to Mina's insistence, she proceeds to explain the nature of wights and of her own powers, illustrating her monologue with constructs, some of which she creates out of the sand inside the pit. Despite Boss Leader's speech, Mina still shows distrust towards her and refuses to comply to her request of sharing information. The girl addresses the issue of Boss Leader's unfair advantage over them due to her having complete control over hers and the other agents' dreams, and she questions the extent to which Boss leader is allowing them to perceive and to remember the dream they're in; also, she calls out the fact that the Dream Hub appears to be suspiciously empty.[16] Because of Mina's outburst, Boss Leaders decides to end the dream with a snap of her fingers, deleting the memories of everyone involved, although she correctly predicts that Mina will still be able to retain much more remembrance of the events than the rest. Indeed, upon awakening Mina rushes to write down as many details as she can muster before her memories fade. Spender, instead, loses any recollection of the events.

Trivia[]

  • Attendees of the Dream Hub always appear to be wearing the same clothes they fell asleep in. Agents and doctors of the Consortium wear their official uniforms as sleepwear for this reason.
  • Insofar, only alive spectrals and the spirits in wisp form bound to them have been shown to connect to the Dream Hub: apart from Boss Leader, only one other creature has been hosted inside it, the Great Unknown. It is unknown whether this has anything to do with its status as a Great Wight, Boss Leader's efforts to keep it contained with her power, or the fact that it had been connected to a sleeping spectral at the time.
